I have been in Ecuador for the last 3 months or so. Things here are going well. I have got fish in one pond at the children's home (that seem to be growing fast) and a group of ducks that are just about ready for the table and market! I am hoping to have hogs and the other pond stocked within the next two weeks. I have also been leading a weekly Bible study with some of the older boys at the home about the steps of salvation. It is going well and I think they are learning, I know I am. Since these boys have been on the streets for a big part of their lives they present special challenges when I am trying to teach them. But God is helping me adjust my teaching style. I also preached a few Sunday's ago in a small church I attend.
Please be praying for the boys at the home, especially Maecel and Jonaton they are going to be in charge of the ag. projects when I am away. Pray that they learn the system well and that God give them wisdom in how to run things (and that He give me wisdom about how to best teach them). Also, please pray for this city (Guayaquil) violent crime (especially kidnapping and armed robbery) has increased to the point that the president of Ecuador has sent the military to try to help the police get things under control. So far I can't tell their really doing much, and now vigilante groups have started taking the law into their own hands and killing the suspected "bad guys." I think the rule of law is eroding little by little. But it is exciting to see how God is working here as well. I am reminded of John 12:26 "Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, my servant also will be." God is here. He loves the people of Ecuador and there is lots of work to be done.

Hello from Haiti

Just thought I would post a quick note. I am in Haiti at the moment investigating the possibility of partnering with a ministry here to begin some projects. At this point nothing is for sure yet but there are at least some possibilities. I preached this morning. It was different for me to have to preach through a translator. If I do end up working here some day I guess I have some more language learning to do. ha ha. There are a few other people here from the U.S. right now and yesterday when our translator was not around I ended up finding someone who spoke Spanish and he was able to ask what we needed to know in Creole, translate it to Spanish to tell me, I then translated to English to tell the group. We had a multi-lingual conversation. Anyway hope this finds everyone well. My next stop on my rotation is Panama I leave Haiti on Tuesday and God willing should arrive in Panama on Wednesday.
Your partner in reaching the world,
Corey

Great 2 weeks

I just got the group from the Christian Campus House at MU on the plane. It was a great couple of weeks with them. They did several construction projects as well as lead a VBS for the kids at the children's home. They were a great group. As well as getting a lot of needed work done they were a great encouragement to me personally, and God kept us safe throughout their visit.

I have a visa!

I am back in Ecuador and finally getting some actual work done!!! Once I finally got all the paper work straight I was able to get my visa fairly easily. After getting the visa in Miami I still had to register it here in Ecuador, and then do some things like get a driver´s license before I could license my truck (oh I finally bought a truck too, it is not the one that I had planned on getting because of the price increase but I think it will get the job done). Now after 5 weeks or so of paperwork I am finally getting to the projects that I came here for. The last week or so I have been scrambling trying to get ready for a group that is coming down from the Christian Campus House at MU to help build some of the facilities that I need for the ag. projects at the children´s home, and I think there is a half a chance I may actually be almost ready for them when they get here. Thanks for you prayers about getting through the paperwork mess. Things are really looking up and I can finally see some progress being made on the projects. Please pray for safety for the MU group and that there time here be a blessing to the work God is doing in Ecuador, as well as a life changing experience for the group (life changing in a good way).
Corey

Back to Ecuador

After a few weeks in the States speaking at several churches I headed back to Ecuador on the 2nd of April. Well, actually I didn't end up leaving the country until the 3rd because my flight was canceled. After getting back to Ecuador I ran into more problems. The first thing on my to do list was to buy a little truck to use to get around, but the prices had gone up significantly since December when I priced them. Then I started running into immigration/visa problems which have to be resolved before I can get to the truck problems. So for the last two weeks or so I have been trying to get my papers straight to get my visa, but the paper work cannot be turned in Ecuador, but only to an Ecuadorian consulate in the U.S. so I got all the paper work I need from Ecuadorian institutions (I hope I got all that I need anyway) then I had to fly back to Miami to go to the consulate there. Right now I am in Florida waiting on the last bit of paper work from the U.S. side of things that I have to get before going to the Consulate. So basically things so far aren't going at all as planned, well not as I planned but I know that God is in control. Please pray that I can quickly get the last of the paperwork that I need and the process at the Consulate will go quickly and easily so I can get back to Ecuador and get back to work. The man that is running the pond is so excited about fish that he has started digging a second pond already and has plans for three more. We also butchered a hog from the first hog project. The meat was used by the family as well as being sold locally. I helped the people with the hog project analyze the market and we found that the best profit margin was in feeding out feeder pigs so we are planning on continuing the hog project that way. I am now back in the States for a few weeks speaking in some churches, before heading back to Ecuador.
Corey

Back to Panama and wrecked the truck

I am finally back in good ol' Panama, and as some of you have probably heard by now have had an exciting time so far. On Friday I laid my truck on it's side in the mountains when a piece of the steering broke and I went off the road. Though it was a rough ride thanks be to God that my passenger and I are both fine. The truck is banged up some, but it could be a lot worse considering what it went through. Anyway, that adventure done with I finally made it to my destination (better late than never) and am planning the harvest of one of the ponds for a week from Monday. This is the first pond integrated with hogs to provide the fertilizer so it will be interesting to see how it comes out. I am also looking at market strategy for the hogs. It looks like they will likely be butchered and sold in the mountains. All in all I am glad to be back in Panama, in a lot of ways it still feels like home.

in progress

Hello everyone.
